As a scientist I'd have to say that it's most likely mostly genetics with environmental components (genetic loci haven't been formally characterized yet which form the basis for such a proclivity, but I'm of the opinion that they will be in short order in the human genome). From a moral standpoint it gets much more complex and is beyond the realm of my expertise.
